0 Battery: The Introduction

Battery is a device in which chemical energy is directly converted to electrical energy. It consists of one or more voltaic cells, each of which is composed of two half cells connected in series by the conductive electrolyte

Batteries can be generally divided into two main types-rechargeable and non-rechargeable (primary cells). Primary cells are intended to be used once and can be disposed. T. Primary cells were also commonly used in communication circuits where other electric power was only intermittently available. Primary cells cannot be recharged.
Batteries
In contrast, rechargeable batteries or secondary cells can be re-charged after by a charger when it is drained. The charger will supply current to the battery until it reaches its maximum or approximate ampere-hour capacity. One of the oldest forms of rechargeable battery is the "wet cell" lead-acid battery. The lead-acid battery is very cheap to construct and can produce large amount of energy. It is one of the reasons why despite of being old technology, this type of battery is still available in the market.
Lead-Acid battery
An improved type of lead-acid battery called a gel battery (or "gel cell") has become popular in automotive industry as a replacement for the lead-acid type. The gel battery contains a gel and has higher resistance against vibration compared to lead acid battery. Another type of battery is the Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) where its electrolyte is suspended in  a special fiberglass matting.
